Traffic Management Plans

Many organisations only consider developing Traffic Management Plan (TMP) when working in large scale, long term developments and projects. There are however a number of situations where a TMP is critical including but not limited to:

  • Complex one off task occurring e.g. crane lift, excavations and public interaction;

  • A site with a small operational foot print e.g. inner city construction site;

  • A site with a large number of vehicle and personnel movements such as delivery and process facilities.

The TMP does not need to be a multi-page, complex document. It may be as simple as a facility diagram on a wall noting general access and directional movement of traffic and people, highlighting information such as:

  • Designated parking areas;

  • Separation barriers for large and small vehicles;

  • Site access and egress;

  • Direction flow of traffic;

  • Speed limits;

  • Demarcated areas for pedestrians;

  • Delivery and load out areas.

Implementation of a TMP it will give a business a greater understanding of the complex nature and risks associated with their boundaries and can in many cases increase production and work flow within the operation.
